UNLESS we win the lottery or there is some unknown inheritance we have to face the facts of HOW to finance our dream!
Now we need to talk about the practical matters of finance. Because I have no intention of living hand to mouth or being broke! AT ALL! I am not setting up a gypsy nomad "hell hole" homestead-you know the junk heap type (sorry if that offends)
I love beauty and as a double Virgo I love order and homekeeping!
I am looking to build something that makes my heart and soul sing with joy!!
We plan to have NO mortgage, to live as much as possible as we can off our land and to make some money off the homestead.
AND...Because I am both an artist and a healer -I have NO intention of working FT off my homestead!
We have a rather simple plan to do this so I thought I would share.. and I KNOW we will have to adapt and modify as we go - a prepper has plan A plan B and plan C-back ups to backups.. and in this we will too!
We are planning to find a 5 acre piece of land - hopefully w an old trailer space on it-so there is a well,septic and power pole and a driveway cut in- we want 1/2 acre for my off grid 1 room-teaching and healing cabin. 1/2 acre for our 3 room cabin and 2 acres of fields for gardens ,orchards and hay /corn, 2 acres of woods .We would like to do a rent w option w/ a down payment for a year- Maybe owner finance for 5 years if possible-that would be our ONLY loan - and truly we don't want that-get that knocked out ASAP !!!
As I wrote in a previous blog I will be moving to NC to secure the land ,to start getting planting beds and a winter hoop house for growing greens going-also will be getting my business up and running!
I will be setting up a winter camp to keep my personal expenses very low-during bad weather I can stay at my sons house or some friends if I must..but that is REALLY rare where we are moving- a snow flake is a BIG deal! It gets cold now-but rarely snow or ice!
So that we don't have to have any sort of a mortgage- Charlie will stay up North to work on a construction project for up to a year(please less Lord) .We are gonna live close to the bone and save ,save ,save...He will have 4 or 5 days at a time off and will come visit me every other week or so-when he is visiting we will be building things like the outhouse,the spring house,the pig pen,goat house and lot, have the proper well drilled (we won't even try too much rock) and the hand pump put in...,put in the clothes line,chicken and rabbit tractors, an outside kitchen, proper greenhouse, we will be fencing in the raised beds and building herb beds and such.. with the plan that by EARLY Spring we can get our chickens,pigs,goats and rabbits .
I will be working as well down in WNC.

This is for teaching and for my Appalachian Folk Medicine Large Group Healing Circles-this is on a love offering/donation basis. After my move in I will be renting a local community building and doing these weekly-large group "Appalachian Folk Medicine" -energy healing circles. My intention is to make enough from that to pay for the space,make gas and grocery money and to keep me in firewood plus hopefully some pocket money!
I will start another local Meetup to teach homespun homestead life skills- likely $10.00 per person for weekly classes - teaching others how to go off the grid and into homesteading !!
After my weekday radio show I will be doing phone readings and distance healing www.blogtalkradio.com/newearthprophet through Ether phone service.I am thinking about doing ONLY 45 minute calls-because the short ones just don't give time to connect and I want to do more than the - "when will I meet my true love" type of reading-I plan to add in an element of healing and spiritual counsel-so that takes time. I will likely charge $60.00 for 45 minutes- that way after the service takes their fee and I pay taxes I can make some decent funds- 2 or 3 calls a day would be ideal for my energy! I will do these from 3 to 11 pm weekdays!
I will also offer private healing sessions and in person Angel Card or Akashic Records readings .
My training was as a Medicine Woman and I learned many amazing techniques-from crystal healing to vibrational healing using drums,tuning forks,crystal bowls,rattles,flutes,etc- I am a Usui and Seichim Reiki master/Teacher, my family line is healers as practitioners of Dana I am primary energy carrier of that ancient divine feminine healing energy ..I am also a certified Haumana/Non native Hawaiian Shaman,took Munay Ki 9 rites and can give those, learned Jewish Shamanic healing from a Mystical Rabbi and as a part Cherokee learned Cherokee Medicine w especially the Cherokee Accupressure and Herbal Healing as well as their/Our laying on of hands and Spirit healing.
I do my healing work as a traditional medicine woman and ones gift what feels fair to their hearts-I will have hours I am opened and ones can just drop by 1st come 1st served! That won't start till Spring time likely =once my cabin space is ready to receive guests! People pay what feels fair- $40.00 is suggested...I ask please w a $20.00 minimum or a bag of organic groceries! I also accept firewood, deer meat, garden produce and such!
I am also an artist and will be painting quite alot of my angel and faerie and likely homespun homestead art this winter and will display those for sale at all my different gatherings.
IF NEEDED-Being that I will be living in a very "touristy" area I will though work some seasonal PT work as a chef ,doing flower arranging or at a local greenhouse.
THEN in the Spring we will have a long weekend cabin build w my boys helping ( they don't know this yet but they are recruited)
Keeping expenses low and Do it ourselves is a HUGE part of our plan!
Come Spring we will have all the shelters and fences done for the animals to be brought in- I can do alot of the simple constrcution myself-Charlie is teaching me to be his carpenter and mason assistant!
We are doing this kind of like old time pioneers who made sure food production and the animals were settled and stayed living in their wagons for a time .
Charlie will stay working till we can then afford to build our 3 room cabin- this WILL have solar power and a windmill-the 1st cabin is really off grid -no electricity wanted!! I will have a little apt sized propane stove and a small propane fridge there... sigh and a solar charger for my smart phone-I need to be able to do my blogtalk radi shows,tape and send You tube shows and do my phone readings and distance healing!
Blogs will have to be written at the library-which is fine w me-I am a BIG book lover and since I won't have TV or internet will likely be reading books by the stacks !
Once Charlie moves- We will be renting out our house here- which will give us 500 a month extra after insurance and taxes. This will go along way once we are built and established!
At that time he will begin building his holistically healthy homes - if the economy does not bear that yet-he can build TINY CABINS, chicken and rabbit tractors,do masonry and custom carpentry ,build outdoor kitchens and do some remodeling work.
Charie and I already run the Three Rivers Tribe Conscious Community Non Profit I as president /founder - he as VP and head of operations . Once the homestead is nicely established we will have a 30 to 50 person CSA Community Supported Agriculture Farm- ones will get a weekly bag of organic,biodynamically grown fruits ,herbs and veggies. There are quite alot of grants out there for CSA's!!
We intend to add in retreat center aspect in the next 2 years-really a silent retreat campground w daily healing and meditation, learning about homesteading skills ,working the gardens and such...
Since the homestead will be working through my non profit and will be both a traditional Appalachian Folk Medicine Healing as well as an educational center- As extras we will sell honey , raw goats milk and cheese ,perhaps organic eggs and some meats !!!..
I can do this by being classified as an ecumenical spiritualist church (I have indeed been an ordained minister for over 26 years- not affilitated anymore because the everyone is gonna die but us mentality got old and did NOT resonate anymore ) and as a Shaman would be classified now as Pagan Clergy -I just need to get my ordination again to do weddings!! .. and we will be doing some services and ceremony here-Ecumenical Spiritualists- I will talk more about that later!!

OK-so that is a touch of our "how the heck do we pay for this dream"plan!!
